RD REFLECTION: Cyber-bullying on the rise
There has indeed been a huge rise in the number of cyber-bullying cases happening lately and the repeated reports in newspapers on cyber-bullying has raised the awareness of the public.
cyber-bullying means bullying others on the net. cyber-bullies make use of the internet and they attack other internet users either verbally or by posting pictures or videos that make the victim feel uncomfortable.
There are cases whereby the bullying does not just stop on the net but these bullies also carry out their bullying in school
Most of these cyber-bullies are only teens and they think that it is an "in" and "cool" thing to taunt and harass people whom they are against, this in turns causes negative impacts on the victim.
Some victims suffer from depression and low-self esteems, they are also reluctant to turn up for school and in more serious cases, they even choose to commit suicide as they do not know how to cope with the immense pressure that they face.
Many at times, people have the concept of that " it is not so easy to die",
but cases like these have already proved enough that measures need to be taken
We would not want more suicide cases to occur before we finally realize the severity of the situation would we?
Of course, the root of this serious problem is actually the internet itself, but it would not be possible to ban the internet as it serves as an important medium of communication for everyone in the world.
schools need to educate pupils on how to deal with cyber-bullies and also the severe consequences of cyber-bullying so as to serve as a reminder to them that such behavior is not condoned.
parents should also take note of their children and spend more time communicating with them, getting to know more about what is happening in their lives.
This can indeed lessen the number of suicide cases due to cyber-bullying as many victims choose to end their life as they have no one to confide in.
Having the school and parents taking extra notice in this issue, one must also learn to think before they action , to also have self control as what they are doing might mean involving the life of another person.
This issue should be taken seriously as it would be too late for regrets when things actually happen.
